The Mary Rose: The Excavation and Raising of Henry VIII's Flagship

by Margaret Rule

English Language A4 size paperback

Without people who question history, nothing would be discovered and thanks to 'Mad McKee' who was convinced she was still under the sea bed in that area, this major piece of history is now available for us to learn from.

A. Mckee wrote a review for the book on 26 March 2014:

"It is good to see that M Rule gives credit to Alexander McKee, the man who started the hunt for the Mary Rose in the face of derision, he was referred to as "Mad McKee" and she includes his much earlier 1973 book 'King Henry VIII's Mary Rose' in her bibliography section. M Rule also acknowledges some of the contributions that the members of McKee's original diving team made.
Much additional detail is brought to the fore as a consequence of the progress made with the further excavation and preservation of the over 19,000 artifacts recovered over the ensuing years."

Written by the archaeological director of the project this picture packed volume is of use to serious students as well as being a browser and popular picture book. Contains 240 pages with masses of b&w illustration as well as colour photos and diagrams. Foreword by HRH Prince of Wales.

The 1983 'Second Revised Edition', with full details of the salvage, covers the nail biting raising of the wreck, but not the 'post excavation' work which has continued ever since.

. If only more archaeology had such coverage and copious study. . . .

  • If you are OUTSIDE the UK, you will only be charged ONE delivery fee for each order, no matter how many products you order. You will NOT be charged a delivery fee for EACH ITEM.
  • Also, If the ACTUAL postage charge to your country is LESS than the amount you have paid, you will be refunded the difference after posting. The reason for this, is that Shopify cannot differentiate the weight of a book from the weight of a men's tie; so there is one standard delivery charge paid PER ORDER.
  • For Example: If you buy 2 books and 1 tie, you will pay ONLY ONE postage charge, and if the actual cost is less after posting, the difference will be refunded.
