Dispossessed: The Ordeal of the Palestinians

By David Glmour

This book gives an excellent introduction to the history of the Palestinian people, covering a lot of ground in relatively few pages. Particularly useful for understanding the internal politics of the PLO, dominated by Fatah and the various Marxist fronts, in the days before Oslo and the rise of the Islamist resistance. The book also focuses on relations between the PLO and the Arab states, not always covered in other publications.

The Sabra and Chatila massacres are not covered. This is because the epilogue in the book runs up to August 1982, whilst the massacres in the refugee camps were carried out in September. The book itself was published in October 1982, probably already printed before the massacres took place.
